Students

Green MBA students come to the program with a rich variety of life experience and work backgrounds, including corporate environments, technology, non-profit management, local government, e-commerce, graphic design, art, finance, music, and biology. Jared Alaqua Featured

In his most recent engagement, in the Solar Industry, Jared helped a startup manufacturer of solar mounting solutions grow their business, develop new products, streamline operations, and manage projects. With IKEA North America, he helped lead teams, evaluated equipment for national roll out, and proposed growth opportunities to North American Management. Meaghan Bertram Featured

Meaghan was born and raised in beautiful Marin County.  She graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in environmental sciences and design.  In 2005, she and her husband bought an RV Park and campground in Solano County and are currently improving and expanding their business.  Meaghan is thrilled to be a part of the GreenMBA program and can't wait to apply everything that she is learning to her business.  She and her husband are excited about making their newly improved RV park the first "Green RV Park" in the country!

Becca came to the Green MBA with a background in International Relations specializing in the Middle East, Islam, and Security Studies. She spent 6 months studying on the high seas aboard the MV Explorer focusing on globalization in 10 countries. Her move back to the Bay Area and into Sustainable Enterprise stems from her travels and her first-hand observations of the damage already being done by climate change, resource depletion, and social injustice. After working with the labor movement and community organizing for A.C.O.R.N. in Watts, Los Angeles, Caroline found her career ambitions towards helping workers more one-on-one through Human Resources. "I love helping people with day to day issues that arise in the workplace as well as building upon the direction of company culture." Alana Jelinek is a graphic designer with many years experience in advertising agencies and design firms in both New York and San Francisco. For the past 7 years, she has been an independent graphic designer working largely with non-profits in the social marketing. Joseph Monte, LEED-AP After graduating from U.C. Berkeley in 2004, Joseph took one glance at the ‘office’ job market and jumped into the construction field. After the bubble burst and the dust settled, he realized he would probably never build bigger and bigger homes with imaginary money again. His exploration of more sustainable careers led him to green building conferences and eventually the GreenMBA.

Jonah Nisenson

Jonah Nisenson started the Green MBA program in 2006 at Dominican University of CA as a part-time student. He studied in his undergraduate years at UC San Diego in biochemistry. He worked for six years in the analytical instrument industry for a firm in Rohnert Park in the capacity of chemist, lab manager, and applications engineer before moving on to work in a family owned business, Access Control Systems and Sonoma Overhead Doors, which installs and services driveway gates and garage doors.

"Learning how to "breakdown" a project has been a fabulous tool for me in business.  I am a Facilities/Project Manager by training and have to think "systemically" in my daily work day, however, getting fully engaged in a "project" for class and working on a "team" project takes you deeper into the process.  How to use systemics and critical thinking in determining whether a project is ready "for the street" or whether it needs to be drilled deeper to get the core of what will make it successful.  It's a study in chaos and systems planning.  I find myself thinking about who will be my next "test case" - or victim!!!"
